Kim was older, and had many memories of Korea. She yearned to bring Korea back into her life by traveling there, and retaining habits and memories that were Korean. Noel, on the other hand, grew up an only child, and wanted to be nothing but American. Was it her young age? She was but three and a half when she came to Massachusetts, whereas Kim was about nine when she arrived.

Kim died young of breast cancer, so Noel took the trip to the Holt Photo exhibit in DC as an homage to her deceased cousin, to pay tribute to their Korean heritage and to their shared history as adoptees.
